The Philadelphia Folksong Society is thrilled to announce its inaugural Gene Shay/Founders’ Award Benefit Concert. This newly-minted event will celebrate our folk community and will take place on Tuesday, March 12 at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA. Celebrate with an evening of award presentations, performances, pre-receptions, a silent auction, and an afterparty. Tickets are on sale now, purchase at pfs.org.

The Society will be presenting two Awards: The Founders’ Award, with honorees Charlie Miller and Dianne Tankle; and the Gene Shay Award, with honorees David Baskin and John Fuhr.

Performing during the evening are Christine Lavin, John Flynn, and Emily Drinker.

This Awards Ceremony, followed by a concert, will benefit the Philadelphia Folksong Society, supporting their efforts to develop the long-term infrastructure to ensure the Philadelphia Folk Festival and other programming will continue beyond 2024.

This is the first of hopefully more events, but it is a very special one since it honors a legendary figure in the Philadelphia folk-music scene,  Gene Shay, as well as those who helped to found the organization in 1957.

All ticket holders are welcome to arrive by 6:30 to take part in a silent auction which will include instruments, recordings and other items of interest. Doors open at 6PM.
