Ken Ulansey and Phyllis Chapell have been blending their instruments and voices for over 15 years, enriching each others musical outlooks. They draw from traditions as diverse as the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Brazil, Ireland, France and, of course, the American songbook. Their travels through most of these cultures lend an authenticity to their music that's wonderful and rare! When with their larger group, these influences expand astronomically, creating a maelstrom of infectiously danceable rhythms.
Phyllis Chapell's repertoire features songs in 12 languages. She captures the essence of musical styles from percussive Brazilian sambas and explosive klezmer to elegant folk, jazz, and originals. Picked as one of the top 500 jazz vocalists ever by the book, "The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide", the Inquirer raved, "Chapell is an elegant singer who will steal your heart away. She eludes all labels!"
Ken Ulansey, Penn Council for the Arts winner, is a musical chameleon, having played classical music with Relache, jazz with his own award-winning band, Latin with Minas, and folk music with many of the nation’s leading songwriters. Besides leading his own wedding band, Ken has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the States, and played on 250 recordings.
