FLUTE 66 is a four-piece ensemble that redefines the cover band genre. The unit’s many differences begin with multi-instrumentalist Jan Alba, whose flute playing provides the band with both its signature sound and its name. A classically trained musician, Jan gives familiar songs new life with her stunning soloing and lyrical counter melodies.
FLUTE 66 boasts an uncommon vocal versatility. Jan, Rusty Crowell and Lance Fingles all sing lead, which puts a wide range of artists on the band’s musical palette. The singers also provide thrilling three-part harmonies, which allows them to create vocal tapestries that take their material to another level.
The four musicians bring with them many years of collective experience. For more than 15 years, Rusty & Jan have been a formidable presence on the Philadelphia-area music scene, having played the Philadelphia Folk Festival and hosted the popular open-mic nights at Malelani Café for the past six years, among their numerous gigs. Lance & Chuck, co-founders/co-composers of the original “progressive-pop” band Nytrous, have been musical partners for more than 45 years. Together, the four have conjured a one-of-a-kind musical concept perfect for bars, restaurants, private parties and any other place there’s a need for great music.
