A one-man band presenting rock, blues, and folk music. Electric Man's own pre-recorded guitar parts and vocal harmonies accompany his singing and guitar playing. Invented in 1990 to perform in the campsites of the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Electric Man rig is a handcrafted instrument that has been used for late-night Fest performances ever since. In addition to being a wandering festival minstrel, Electric Man has appeared on varied stages, including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Xtreme Folk Festival, and at regional cafes, restaurants, and concert venues. Electric Man, Steve Perlsweig, is a one-man band presenting folk, rock and blues music with live lead vocals and guitar using special effects. Electric Man is backed up with his own prerecorded vocal harmonies and guitar parts. Steve invented The Electric Man rig in 1990 and it has evolved over the years. The rig was designed perform while strolling in the Philadelphia Folk Festival campgrounds, which he has done late at night ever since. Electric Man is enthusiastically greeted by festers, many of whom have known him for years. When he appeared on Gene Shay’s radio show, Gene said Electric Man exemplified the campground’s creative culture. In 2020, Electric Man’s 1-minute video was shown on the PFF virtual main stage. In 2022, Electric Man played to thousands of campers from the Thursday night camp stage. In 2023-2024, “Electric Man the Movie” was provided to donors to the Philadelphia Folksong Society’s online giving portal; associated promotional videos with original short songs were used by the Folksong Society to attract donors. Other venues where Electric Man has performed include: The Philadelphia Fringe Festival (multiple years), The Philadelphia 2nd Street Festival, Woofstock at Seger Dog Park. He was the opening act for the Saturday show at every one of the first 23 Xtreme Folk Festivals.
