Matthew Gordon considers that combining words with music has been the most impactful form of communication since ancient times. Whether drawing inspiration from the funk of the Meters or the bluegrass of the Stanley Brothers, Matthew assembles the elements in his original songs to make his subtle poetical points with maximum connection from his heart to each individual audience member. His award-winning songwriting has received widespread accolades and airplay, while his sensitive yet funky dobro playing has placed him in great demand by multiple Philadelphia bands. He has appeared at The Philadelphia Folk Festival multiple times, most recently with his electric band, Silvershade Scenery. With a heart in folk-grass and a soul in funk-rock, Matthew brings an original, creative and intimate spirit that will alternately move you to smile, think deeply, dance, and nod your head in recognition of an exposed feeling or vivid mental image.
Matthew is also affiliated with The Hoppin' Boxcars, The Bent Benjamins, M Sparks, and Gratefolk. He often appears as a duo with Ryann Lynch on fiddle, calling themselves Puffer Duck.
