When Woody Guthrie wrote on his guitar THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS, he told everyone that the Folk community would not stand for the injustices of the world and that the most powerful weapon we have in our community is our voice. The folk community has been using its “fascist-killing” guitars and collective voice for decades to shine a light on and tell the stories of inequity, inequality, and injustice.
The Philadelphia Folksong Society stands in solidarity with the Black community to take time to be honest, reflect, AND LISTEN. Through productive conversations and allowing the voices of black artists, colleagues, and community members to rise, we can then join in the chorus of voices to speak out against bigotry, hate, and racial violence.
