Apes of the State is an independent folk-pop-punk band from Lancaster, PA.
Apes of the State fuse folk, pop, and punk rock with catchy melody driven songs about life's ebb and flow. The three piece acoustic band captures a punk rock attitude with an unlikely instrumental line-up consisting of songwriter April Hartman (lead vocals, guitar, banjo), Dan Ebersole (mandolin), and Mollie Swartz (violin), and Maddy Scott (vocals, bells, and whatever else). After releasing their debut album "This City Isn't Big Enough" in March of 2016, the group set out on a series of tours covering over 60 U.S. cities in the past year. As a band, they are driven by DIY ethics with a goal of helping as many people as possible with their music. Their songs are categorized by their surprising and unlikely instrumentation coupled with witty and pointed lyrics that cover topics such as love, heartbreak, politics, student loan debt, and overcoming addiction.
