PFS Presents Corey Laitman – 6/15 @ 7pm
Due to the constantly changing reality surrounding the global health crisis of COVID-19, the FIRST priority of the Society is the health and well-being of our community. Following the wild success of its first livestream with Mari Black on March 13, 2020, the Society has worked to to keep the music playing, lift spirits, and make sure the artists in our extended Folk Family can continue to live day to day. We all know music is a universal language and we will be utilizing it as we present artists local, regional, and international – old favorites and new discoveries – to a digital audience of music lovers from the comfort of their own homes!
PFS is excited to bring you Corey Laitman! With their tours cancelled and tens of thousands of dollars lost, this is the time to support the musicians we love and #KeepTheMusicPlaying
About Corey Laitman
WBUR Tiny Desk finalist and 2018 Passim Iguana Fund recipient Corey Laitman has released Seafoam, their lush and lyrical sophomore album, ushered into the world with a sold-out show at The Parlor Room in Northampton, MA. Produced by Mark Miller (J Mascis, The Pixies) and Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Anand Nayak (Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, Pamela Means, Alastair Moock), Seafoam boasts 13 expertly crafted alternative folk-pop ballads with hushed, spiritual undertones.
Laitman’s music is set apart by its layered, poetically conceived narratives that surprise and disarm. The complexity of the songs on Seafoam inspire repeated listening: They are protective of their vital mystery, present in their comfort.
Nayak colors the album with electric guitar, banjo and mandolin arrangements as generous and soaring as the songs themselves.
Like the work of Deb Talan or Anais Mitchell, Laitman’s characters are stark, compelling, and deeply human. Worlds of people are woven and realized; the beings inhabiting these worlds of song are imbued with searing imagery, and undeniable integrity.
In a testimonial, Laitman’s work was praised by American poet Gordon Massman as being among “those few singer-songwriters who, through undeniable talent, climb over the competitive frenzy into the public sphere. Corey Laitman is of that caliber, and I entreat you to listen.”
