Bethlehem & Sad Patrick
Soul, Blues, Jazz, Love and Other Struggles
“The local duo blends the focused minimalism and poetic lyrics of folk tradition with simmering, freewheeling jazz and blues — slick guitars, soaring vocals, nuanced melodies.” ~ John Vettese, WXPN The Key and Key Studio Sessions
Bethlehem is a singer, songwriter, and percussionist who WHYY/ NewsWorks Philadelphia described as “Germantown’s next rising star”. Her first solo record, the a cappella “Bigger Than Music”, was released to local acclaim in November of 2012.
Sad Patrick is a songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist who was kicked out of the Calliope School of Folk Music when he started using “jazz” chords.
Together they recorded their first CD, 2015’s “Did You Ever Do?” in his spare bedroom. Last summer they played all around Philadelphia and the surrounding area, including a crowd-pleasing set at the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
Currently they’re gearing up for another busy summer, and planning to record their next album, tentatively called “Love and Other Struggles”. The new set of songs covers a wider range of topics than their first, including being an immigrant in America in 2017, the daily struggles of living in a city, playing without knowing the rules, and trying to get out of your own way on the path to happiness.
